Grace Williams started competing as a level 5 in 2005 at the age of 9 and earned first place at the 2005 Swing into Spring Invitational. In September she moved up to level 6 and competed at the 2005 Michigan Judge's Cup earning 9th all around. She continued to compete as a level 6 athlete in the spring of 2006 earning 3rd place on balance beam at the 2006 Chicago Style Classic, 1st all around at the 2006 Level 6 Sectional, and 1st all around at the Heartland Invitational. In May of 2006 she competed in the Michigan Level 6 State Championships earning first place on vault, third place on uneven bars, and third place all around.
Grace started competing as an optional gymnast in November of 2006 when she competed as a level 7 at the Judges Cup earning gold medals on uneven bars and all around. She moved up to Level 8 and earned the gold medals in the all around at both The Cup and the Twistars Invite in the winter. She quickly moved through the levels competing as a level 9 gymnast at the 2007 Motown Madness Invitational earning 4th all around and qualifying to the State Championships. Grace did well at the Michigan Level 9 State Championships earning a silver medal on balance beam, bronze medal on floor exercise, and fourth place all around. She qualified to her first Region 5 Championships and earned 15th at the competition, earning the first alternate position on the Region 5 2007 Eastern National Team.
In 2008 Grace continued to compete as a level 9 athlete earning first place in the all around at the Twistars Invitational and Totally Rad Invitational. She continued her season by winning the all around at the Totally Rad Invitational, Chicago Style Meet, and Motown Madness. She earned 5th place at the 2008 Michigan Level 9 State Championships and also came home with a gold medal on vault. At Region 5 Championships Grace tied for first all around and qualified to her first Eastern National Championships! She went on to compete at the 2008 Level 9 Eastern National Championships earning silver medal on vault and balance beam. In addition to her two silver medals, she earned the title of Level 9 Eastern National Champion in the all around!
2009 marked the first year that Grace competed as a level 10 athlete. She started the season by earning gold medals on vault and balance beam at the 2009 Twistars Invitational, as well as a silver medal in the all around. She then competed at the Cincinnati Winter Sports Festival where she took 2nd all around. At the Hilton Head Invitational she earned 7th all around. After Hilton Head Grace left her longtime gym of AGA in Flint, MI to train at Geddert's Twistars in Lansing, MI. She competed at the 2009 Hardrock Invite in Arizona placing 1st on vault and 3rd all around. She then competed at the 2009 US Airborne Invitational earning a silver medal in the all around. Grace missed the rest of the competitive season due to an inury.
Grace came back strong in 2010 sweeping the gold medals at the 2010 Twistars Invite. She then traveled to California for two competitions, earning first at the San Diego Classic and taking fourth at the Byer's Invitational. She went on to earn the bronze medal at the 2010 Michigan State Championships as well as a gold medal on balance beam. She qualified to the 2010 Region 5 Championships where she earned gold medals on both floor exercise and the all around and qualified to her first Junior Olympic National Championships! Grace traveled to Dallas, TX for the National competition and did very well for her first outing earning a silver medal on vault, a gold medal on uneven bars, a silver medal on floor exercise and became the 2010 Junior A National Champion! Her all around placement also qualified her to the 2010 Junior Olympic National Team and helped her earn the title of 2010 Region V Junior Olympic Athlete of the Year!
After the Junior Olympic National Championships Grace began her journey into the international elite world. She qualified to the international elite level at the 2010 National Elite Qualifier held at Bieger International Gymnastics in Deerfield, FL. She then traveled to the 2010 US CoverGirl Classic where she earned 21st all around and qualified to the 2010 Visa Championships. Grace traveled to Hartford, CT for the biggest meet of her career so far, and fared well placing 28th all around in a tough field of competitors. Grace is now looking forward to the rest of her career as an international elite gymnast.
