Charlotte Isabel Mackie was born on October 6, 1993 to Bill and Susan Mackie. Charlotte is the youngest of the five Mackie kids. Charlotte lives at home with an older sister, Gael, who is also a gymnast, as well as an older brother Owen. She also has three older siblings Drew (27), Christie (26), and Vicky (25). Charlotte started gymnastics at the age of five years old, and soon began following in her sisters footsteps.

Charlotte quickly began making a name for herself in the gymnastics world. 2003 was the first year that Charlotte showed up on the national scene. She competed at the 2003 Golden Spike competition as a pre-novice athlete. Charlotte did well at the golden spike winning floor and placing second on vault, bars, and the all-around. Charlotte started compete at the National novice level soon after. Charlotte went on to compete at the Elite Canada competition in 2003 where she took 10th all around individually and placed 5th on the floor exercise.

In early 2004 Charlotte was sent to Texas to compete in the 2004 WOGA Classic. Charlotte competed in the level 10 session of the competition which used USAG rules. Charlotte did well placing 4th in the all around competition as well as 4th on beam and 5th on floor. She also competed in the 2004 Carol Lenz competition and 2004 Twisters Invite winning the all-around in both competitions at the National Novice level. Charlotte easily qualified to the 2004 Western Championships. Once there Charlotte placed 1st on floor and 2nd on bars as an individual athlete. She went on to compete in the Canadian Championships in 2004 where she placed 2nd all-around on day 2 of the competition and took the gold medal on beam. Charlotte’s final competition of 2004 was the Elite Canada Competition. Charlotte took 4th all-around as an individual athlete and won the gold medal on floor and the bronze medal on bars.

Charlotte was once again sent to the WOGA Classic in January of 2005 where she was finally able to compete as a Junior International competitor using FIG rules. Charlotte finished 16th in the all-around with a field of very tough competitors. She also took 5th place on the floor exercise, her highest placement of the competition. Charlotte competed in the 2005 Omega Invitational when she returned home to Canada easily placing 1st in the all-around competition. She also took the gold medals in the beam (10.10) and floor (9.60) competition. Charlotte continued to compete at the National novice level of competition placing second all-around at British Columbia Championships, 1st all-around at Western Championships, and 1st all-around at Canadian Championships. Charlotte was also sent to France to compete in the 2005 Massilia Gym Cup. This was Charlotte’s first major international elite competition. Charlotte held her composure well placing 5th on both beam and floor.

Charlotte moved into the high performance level in 2006 placing 1st all-around at the 2006 Carol Lenz competition. Charlotte was then sent to the 2006 Gymnix International competition in Montreal where she finish 6th all-around and 3rd on beam and floor. Charlotte also earned a spot on the 2006 Pacific Alliance team that would be traveling to Hawaii for the Pacific Alliance Championships. Charlotte finished 6th in the all-around in a very tough field of up and coming juniors and even some other well known gymnasts. She also earned a 7th place finish on floor exercise. Charlotte went on to compete in the 2006 Canadian Championships placing 4th in the all-around and 1st on beam. Charlotte then went to Gatineau, Quebec where she competed in the Junior Pan American Championships. Charlotte did well at the competition winning the bronze medal on beam and floor.

Charlotte began 2007 by traveling to Montreal, CAN for the 2007 Gymnix International Competition where she took 5th All-around and placed 4th on vault and bars. She later traveled to Romania to compete in the 2007 Romanian International where she earned a bronze in all-around and earned two more on beam and floor in event finals. Charlotte finished 3rd at Canadian Championships and earned a silver on vault and a gold on floor in event finals. Charlotte was later named to the Canadian team traveling to Guatemala for the 2007 Pan America Games. Charlotte qualified to AA Finals where she took 16th. She also qualified for vault, bars, and beam finals taking 6th, 7th, and 6th place respectively. Charlotte rounded out a busy 2007 by competing in the Junior Japan event finals competition earning a bronze on vault and beam.

Charlotte opened 2008 by traveling to Montreal, CAN for t he 2008 Gymnix International where she placed 4th all-around and earned a gold on vault, bronze on beam, and a second bronze on floor. Charlotte then traveled to San Jose, California for the 2008 Pacific Rim Championships. Charlotte had a good showing in the United States by placing 4th all-around and 4th on vault. At 2008 Canadian Championships Charlotte placed 7th in the all-around in the Senior International division and took 3rd on vault in event finals. Charlotte is now looking forward to competing in more international competitions!
