Cerise Nicole Witherby was born on December 27, 1992 to Lisa and Michael Witherby. Cerise got a later introduction into the gymnastics world than most. At age 7 Cerise’s best friend got her started in the sport. Cerise started competing as a level 5 athlete in 2001 at New Hope Gymnastics Academy. Cerise moved to level 6 the following season where she placed 18th all-around at state championships. Cerise continued moving through the levels competing level 7 in the spring of 2003.
Cerise moved to Wildfire Gymnastics after the 2003 season where she would now be coached by Rhonda Schwandt, 1978 World Championship Team Member, Stephanie Calvert, Bill Callander, and Tom Wakeling. Cerise flourished in her new environment. Cerise competed as a level 7 in 2004, winning the all-around competition at State Championships as well as winning the floor competition. In 2005 Cerise competed as both a level 8 and 9 athlete at the LA Classic, scoring high enough to qualify to level 9. Cerise competed level 9 the remainder of the season, qualifying to the Western National Championships. Cerise, and fellow teammate Natelle, traveled to St. Louis where Cerise took the bronze medal on vault.
Cerise competed level 9 once again during the 2006 season. Cerise traveled to Hawaii where she won the floor competition and placed 2nd in the all-around. She breezed through the state competition winning first place all-around. Despite some rough scores at Regional Championships, Cerise easily qualified to her 2nd Western Nationals Competition. Cerise traveled to Colorado where she placed 2nd in the all-around and took the gold medal on vault! Cerise is now looking forward to the 2007 season where she hopes to compete as a level 10 athlete.
In 2007 Cerise competed at a level 10 athlete. She did well at the beginning of the season but suffered an injury before the California State Championships. Cerise competed bars and beam at state and petitioned to the Region One Championships. Once there Cerise placed 5th all-around, qualifying to the Junior Olympic National Championships. Cerise and her teammate Natelle traveled to Ohio to compete in the National Championships and both girls hit all four of their routines. Cerise placed 14th in the all-around competition! Cerise is now looking foward to the 2009 season and hoping to test elite.
Cerise is currently in the 8th grade at Page Private School. Her hobbies include arts & crafts and collecting giraffe items. She has one brother, Graham as well as three dogs (Pistachio, Max, Spunky), two hamsters (Peanut and Snickers), and two frogs (Heckle and Freckle).
